RSHE/PSHE Curriculum and Policy Consultation

Consultation on our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) Policy and Curriculum

Dear Parents and Carers,

At Smallwood CE Primary Academy, we are committed to providing our children with a high-quality Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum that supports their wellbeing, personal development and safety, while reflecting our school vision of "Let Your Light Shine" and our values of being Ready, Kind, Respectful and Safe.

As part of our regular review process and in line with Department for Education guidance, we are currently reviewing and updating both our RSHE curriculum and RSHE policy. Before any changes are finalised, we would like to consult with parents and carers and invite your feedback.

RSHE plays an important role in helping children to:

·         Build positive and healthy relationships

·         Understand how to stay physically and mentally healthy

·         Develop confidence, resilience and self-respect

·         Recognise risks and know how to keep themselves safe

·         Prepare for the opportunities and challenges of growing up

We recognise that some aspects of RSHE can be sensitive and that parents and carers are the primary educators of their children in matters relating to relationships and health. We therefore want to work in partnership with families to ensure that everyone understands what is taught, why it is taught and how it supports children's development.

As part of this consultation process, we are making the following documents available for review:

·         Draft RSHE Curriculum

·         Draft RSHE Policy

·         Information about the Department for Education's expectations for RSHE in primary schools

We are also happy to make teaching materials and resources available for parents and carers to view upon request.

Following the consultation period, we will carefully consider all feedback received before finalising the curriculum and policy.
